During an MTV Video Music Award ceremony on August 29, 2002, which also happened to be Michael's birthday, Brittany Spears introduced Michael as the artist of the millennium, to present him with a birthday cake. Michael was under the impression that he was receiving an award for Artist of the Millennium from MTV. It is unclear to fans around the world when MTV decided that this award, that was earlier mentioned on their own website ceased to exist. I believe its time for MTV to do what is right and produce such an award for Michael's contribution to the music industry. An award that should have been given to him in 2000, not only for his inspirational lyrics and amazing video productions, but also for making MTV what it is today. For those who are not aware of Michael's lifelong humanitarian efforts, below is a list of charities and links to some of those charities he supported. R.I.P. Till We Meet, Michael. We love you more!

He thanked God, David Blaine and his mother among others for helping him win the award. The press weren't sure what to make of it. A lot of newspapers and websites reported that Jackson had indeed won the 'Artist of the Millennium' award. Others figured out the real story and ran with that. This article lists the presenters, venues and winners for the Kerrang! Awards from 1999 to 2016. Best Video: 'Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)' – The Offspring; Spirit of Independence: The Hellacopters; Artist of the Millennium: Black Sabbath.
